Local Events Planned to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks
Tomorrow (Sept. 11) marks the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the Twin Towers at New York City’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Flight 93, which was brought down near Shanksville, Pa.
Here is a list of events in our area of ceremonies honoring and memorializing the victims and their families. We will never forget!
Middletown’s 9/11 20th Anniversary Memorial Service

Middletown World Trade Center Memorial Gardens at 1 Kings Highway in Middletown Township
Middletown’s 20th anniversary of 9/11 memorial service will commemorate the Middletown residents and friends who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attack. The event will take place at the township’s World Trade Center Memorial Gardens with parking available at the Middletown train station.
The Middletown PBA is also hosting its first annual 5K Memorial Run to benefit the Kenneth Tietjen Foundation. Ken Tietjen was a Port Authority Police Officer who died on 9/11 as a hero. The fundraising event will take place at 7 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 11 beginning at Middletown Train Station at 22 Church St., Middletown. For more information, click here.
Colts Neck 20th Anniversary of 9/11: Memorial Service

Colts Neck is reflecting on those who lost their lives and the heroism of the area’s first responders at its 20th Anniversary of 9/11 Memorial Service at the Colts Neck Community Church at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Freehold Township 9/11 20th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony

The Freehold Township Committee is hosting a 9/11 20th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony at its Municipal Plaza 9/11 Monument. All are welcome to attend.
9/11 Memorial Concert

Cream Ridge Golf Course at 181 County Road 539 in Cream Ridge
A live music event featuring the Best of the Eagles with performances by ’80s Undercover & Emily Vadala is set at the Cream Ridge Golf Course on Saturday. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to Voices Center of Resilience, a nonprofit that provides long-term mental health support and care to survivors, first responders and families of those who passed in the Sept. 11 tragedy. The outdoor event will take place on the Cream Ridge Golf Course Driving Range. Food and beer trucks will be on site. Lawn tickets are $40; tickets for preferred seating and VIP tables are $60. Parking opens at 3 p.m.; live music begins at 5 p.m. with the Best of the Eagles beginning at 7 p.m. Purchase tickets here.

Monmouth County’s 9/11 Memorial has three symbolic components: a timeline walkway to recollect the day’s events; a stone base carved with the names, ages and hometowns of the county residents who lost their lives; and an eagle sculpture with a beam from one of the fallen towers.Special Observances
- A Remembrance Ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 11. All are welcome. On-site parking will be limited. Off-site parking locations include the Claypit Creek and Buttermilk Valley sections of Hartshorne Woods Park. Shuttle bus service is provided from these lots.
- The monument will be open for extended evening hours until 11 p.m. on September 10, 11 & 12.
