Tom Petty Documentary To Screen One Night Only on Oct. 20
The late Tom Petty’s birthday will be honored on Oct. 20 with a special screening of the film, Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers for a one-night global celebration with encore screenings in select cinemas on October 21.
The 89-minute film captures the period of 1993-1995, when Tom worked with producer Rick Rubin for the first time. The film is an unvarnished look at Petty that features never-before-seen footage drawn from a newly discovered archive of 16mm film as well as new interviews with album co-producer and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell along with Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and many more, according to a release.
The movie is directed by award-winning filmmaker Mary Wharton (Jimmy Carter: Rock and Roll President, Sam Cooke: Legend, Elvis Lives!, The Beatles Revolution).
An expansive Wildflowers box set titled Wildflowers & All the Rest, which featured outtakes from the sessions, was released last year.
The movie will screen Oct. 20 at Cinemark Hazlet 12 Theaters in Hazlet.
