David Bryan of Bon Jovi Set for Stone Pony Celebration; Talks MTV VMA Nomination, JBJS Nashville, Documentary and More with 1071 The Boss (Audio)
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Bryan of Bon Jovi will be on hand to continue The Stone Pony’s 50 Year Celebration with a special show on August 17 featuring a few of his friends.
The famed keyboardist and Tony Award Winner will play host to a show that will include The Matt O’Ree Band (O’ Ree joined Bon Jovi on guitar for a 2015 tour of the Middle East and Asia). Bryan will join O’ Ree for several songs, and promises a few surprises for the evening.
“I played last year with Matt O’ Ree, and it’s really fun,” Bryan tells 1071 The Boss midday host Michele Amabile. “He plays songs from his new record and then he came back and we just jammed….We are celebrating Asbury Park and The Stone Pony. 50 years. It’s a pretty special occasion.”
Bryan goes back with Asbury Park a long way, first playing the clubs with Jon Bon Jovi while they were still in High School.
“I started with Jon and the Atlantic City Expressway was our band in the summer of ’78, so we were playing The Fast Lane, which is now Asbury Lanes, and also The Pony. The thing that was so great in those days you could be in a club band, and there is Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. There is Bruce Springsteen-local heroes.”
Bon Jovi has plenty to celebrate in 2024-the band was recently nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for “Legendary” off the recently released album, “Forever.”
“We’re a band that keeps striving to keep pushing forward,” Bryan said. “We get out there, we made a new record and we keep pushing the envelope, and we get a big old hit song after forty some odd years of doing it. Jon’s healing away, and hopefully we can get out there and play to the people, like we want to. “
