Sheer Heart Attack: Queen Guitarist Brian May Reveals Details of Cardiac Emergency on Instagram (Video)
Queen founder and guitarist Brian May was recently rushed to the hospital after feeling pain in his chest for 40 minutes.
May took to Instagram to share his story, telling fans that the doctors discovered three blocked arteries. The 72-year old musician recently suffered through an agonizing injury, first believed to be through a gardening accident. An MRI revealed the tear was a result of a compressed sciatic nerve.
“In the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside, I had a small heart attack. I say small, it’s not something that did me any harm,” he said, revealing that he opted for 3 small stents rather than have heart surgery.
“It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness. It’s that feeling in the arms and sweating,” he said. “I turned out to have three arteries which were congested and in danger of blocking the blood to my heart.”
May said his heart feels “strong” now, and is not taking any more pain killers.
“When I came around, it was as if nothing had happened,” he continued. “I couldn’t feel they had been in here. I couldn’t feel anything and I still can’t, it’s been amazing.
“It’s an incredible operation done by the right skillful person and I thank them from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
May encouraged fans in their “autumn years” over the age of 60 to get an angiogram.
“Nothing could tell me I was about to get in real, real trouble,” he said.
“I could have died from that. Anyway, I didn’t die, I came out,” concluding he is “ready to rock.”
