Perry Farrell Issues Apology Following Cancellation of Janes Addiction Tour
In the wake of Jane’s Addiction cancelling the remainder of their reunion tour after an on-stage altercation between singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro derailed a Boston show, Perry is issuing an apology to fans and his bandmates.
“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” he said in a statement.” Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation “
The recent events forced the group –known for hits “Been Caught Stealing” and “Jane Says”–to shelve the current tour.
“The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group. As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour,” the band said in a brief statement Monday.
The move comes after videos captured Farrell lunging at Navarro at the September 13 concert in Boston, bumping Navarro with his shoulder before taking a swing at the guitarist with his right arm. Navarro is seen holding his right arm out to keep Farrell away before Farrell is dragged away by others on stage. The show ended shortly after.
“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour,” wrote Navarro in a statement of his own. ” Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
The next day at Sea. Hear. Now, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson dedicated the song, “Remedy,” on stage in Asbury Park.
“We hope they find some peace,” he said.
