Paid Parking in Freehold to Begin September 1
Starting September 1, Freehold Borough will start charging for parking in the downtown area.
According to social media, while “a majority of the parking will be free,” certain areas will require payment through new parking kiosks.
“There will be paid parking in the Market Yard Parking Lot, McGackin parking lot and the New borough Hall parking lot as well as East and West Main Streets, South Street, and Court Street only,” Downtown Freehold announced. “There will be kiosks that will accept credit/debit cards and coins or you can download the app. Daytime parking permits are also available by contacting Freehold Borough.”
Free parking areas will include: the Broad Street parking lot, Court Street parking lot, Lafayette Place parking lot and the parking lot behind Panini Grill.
The reason for the new kiosks is to pay for continued maintenance, including paving parking lots, line striping, way-finding signage, landscaping, litter control, snow removal, additional land acquisitions for more parking opportunities, and public safety.
