Lindsey Buckingham Joins Halsey on Saturday Night Live (Video)
Saturday Night Live was packed with celebrity cameos for the Oct. 9 broadcast on NBC hosted by Kim Kardashian, and the musical guest was not an exception.
Estranged Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham strapped on a guitar and joined New Jersey native Halsey as a surprise guest, teaming up for the song, “Darling.”
It’s been a minute since Buckingham played on the SNL stage. He had performed as a solo act in the ’80s, and in 2011 became somewhat of a character on the show when cast regular Bill Hader portrayed the musician in a sketch, “What’s Up With That?”
“When somebody mentioned that Bill Hader was doing me, I thought ‘Gee, that’s kind of obscure,’” Buckingham told the San Francisco Examiner. “But obviously, I took it as a compliment.”
On that season’s penultimate episode, Buckingham strolled out in front of his doppelganger for an impromptu jam session with KenanThompson.
“Seeing the cast go through their paces was amazing,” Buckingham said. “Even when they do the dress rehearsal on Saturday night for an earlier audience, they’re still tweaking it, still moving things around, still pulling sketches. I take my hat off to them, because they’re holding up the legacy of live TV.”
Buckingham is on a planned break of his 2021 U.S. solo tour. It resumes in December. His 20-song set includes such Fleetwood Mac favorites as “Second Hand News,” “Go Your Own Way” and “Big Love.”
