Jon Bon Jovi went back to school today at Sayreville War Memorial High School today (Oct. 1) to celebrate the dedication of the new Jon Bon Jovi Performing Arts Center.

The new addition to the high school also includes a Jon Bon Jovi Music Suite. Skid Row guitarist Dave Sabo–also a graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School–was also honored at the ceremony.

The center also honors the memory of Al Parinello, who volunteered in the school music department as well as the marching band. He taught both Bon Jovi and Sabo how to play guitar. Bon Jovi honored him in a touching speech at the band Bon Jovi’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Bon Jovi carved the initials “AP95” into his Takamini acoustic guitar.

Bon Jovi will be spending a lot of time in New Jersey this month. He will join Stephen Colbert for the Montclair Film Festival for a conversation on Saturday, Oct. 26. Also: the annual JBJ Soul Kitchen Chili Cook-Off is slated for Oct. 12.
