John Mellencamp Statue to Be Unveiled at Indiana University
John Mellencamp is going back to school–kind of.
Indiana University is erecting a statue in his honor, and Mellencamp will be in attendance for the unveiling on Oct. 18.
The sculpture was created by Bloomington native and IU alumnus Michael McAuley, who created IU’s bronze Hoagy Carmichael statue, which also sits outside the IU Auditorium.
Mellencamp was born in Seymour and lives on Lake Monroe southeast of Bloomington.
The event will take place from noon-1 p.m. at the IU Auditorium’s North Garden on Seventh Street. Members of the public interested in attending can RSVP online.
