Happy Socks Honors David Bowie With New Collection
David Bowie fans can make a “fashion” statement this winter with a brand new collection of socks created by Happy Socks.
The collection–which highlights individual tributes inspired by Bowie’s biggest hits, visual performances and on stage costumes– features six pairs of soft combed cotton crew socks and four pairs of kid’s crew socks in organic combed cotton, all available as singles and in collectible gift boxes.
Fans can choose from Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Electric Tiger, Tokyo Pop, The Ziggy Special and The Silver Lining.
The Silver Lining sock is an homage to Bowie’s silver zebra outfit was first
spotted in LP Station To Station from 1976, where he shifted musical style and brought The Thin White Duke to life. The outfit also made an
appearance in Lazarus, the second music video from
his final album, . The matte black yet shimmering style is wrapped in silver foil.
The Ziggy Special, inspired by the Japanese concept Basara is characterized by the “colorful attention-grabbing garments,” designed by Kansai Yamamoto. The asymmetrical knitted leotard, considered one of music history’s most memorable outfits, is recreated on the pair of socks, which comes with one sock, and two ankle bangles. The sock features a sparkly
lurex knitted heel and toe for extra flair.
‘When we knew we were doing an homage to Bowie, we knew instantly that it should be a tribute to his unbelievably creative outfit,” said Paula Maso, Creative Director, Happy Socks. in a statement. “Bowie was a shape-shifter like no other, and kept on surprising us for decades. It made sense for us to try and translate 8 of his most iconic looks into miniature: socks!’
Single crew socks will range from $8-16 and gift boxes will range from $32-96.
The collection launches on Feb. 16, and will be available on Happysocks.com, in Happy Socks Stores, and at selected retailers.
