Former Journey Front Man Teases Holiday Song
Add Steve Perry to the growing number of rockers using Tik Tok to spill some tea!
Perry–surrounded by Christmas lights and stuffed animals decked out for the holidays in his studio- let it leak on his Tik Tok channel that he will be getting into the holiday spirit with a brand new original Christmas song, “Maybe This Year,” sharing a few snippets of the track singing a cappella.
“Maybe This Year” would be Perry’s first original track since his 2018 “Traces” album, which at the time was his first new material in decades. He also got cheeky on Instagram, posting a self-drawn portrait of himself in a Santa Hat writing “Here’s another one of my sketches because, ‘Maybe This Year one NEW SP original Holiday song, plus one more, could be coming.”
Perry also released an all-covers Christmas disc last year.
He is currently in a legal battle against former bandmates Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain seeking to block their claimed ownership of trademarks involving 20 of the band’s popular songs, including “Open Arms,” “Anyway You Want It,” “Wheel in the Sky” and others adorning T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and other merch items.
Perry claims that Cain and Schon didn’t have the right to register trademarks for the song titles without his approval. Schon countered on Facebook calling the lawsuit “a bunch of total crap” and that the conflict was over control of the band’s name.
