Elton John Postpones European Dates
Complications from an injury is keeping Elton John off the Yellow Brick Road, he announced today.
Elton is postponing the European dates of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour and will reschedule his Europe and U.K. 2021 dates to 2023.
“At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since,” he writes. “Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving.”
Elton, 74, will have to undergo an operation to “get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications,” he said.
He will still perform for Global Citizen Live, the 24-hour global music event scheduled for September 25 at various venues around the world because that event won’t be as taxing. If surgery goes well, the U.S. dates–including stops in Newark, NJ and Madison Square Garden–will go on as planned.
“I completely feel your frustrations after the year we’ve had,” he writes. “I promise you this — the shows will return to the road next year and I will make sure they are more than worth the wait.”
