Bruce Springsteen Announces New Album, “Letter to You,” for October

After much anticipation, Bruce Springsteen will release a brand new album with the E Street Band, “Letter to You,” on Oct. 23, on Columbia Records.

The record–produced by Ron Aniello and Springsteen–was recorded live with the band in Springsteen’s New Jersey home in just under a week, Springsteen revealed in a statement. The album–mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig–is the band’s first album release with the band since the 2016 tour of “The River. The first track, “Letter to You,” debuted this morning on 1071 The Boss.

“I love the emotional nature of Letter To You,” says Springsteen. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.”

In addition to the radio release, the band is also releasing an accompanying video, shot entirely in black and white in the winter months. The clip gives fans a glimpse of the E Street Band in Springsteen’s studio, with close ups of chords scrawled on paper, and guitarist Steve Van Zandt air-drumming along as Springsteen delivers his love letter to the group.
“Things I found out in hard times and good, I wrote ’em all out in ink and blood/ dug deep in my soul and signed my name true/ and sent it in my letter to you,” he sings.

“Letter to You” includes nine recently written Springsteen songs, as well as new recordings of three previously unreleased, compositions from the 1970s, “Janey Needs a Shooter,” “If I Was the Priest,” and “Song for Orphans.” Springsteen is joined on Letter To You by Roy Bittan, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, Garry Tallent, Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Charlie Giordano and Jake Clemons

The record is the follow-up to Springsteen’s 2019 release of “Western Stars.”
