Unreleased John Mellencamp Song Resurfaces on Forthcoming “Scarecrow” Reissue (video)

John Mellencamp’s 1985 release “Scarecrow” will be getting a deluxe reissue on Nov. 4, and today fans can get a taste of what almost made the record with the release of the bonus track, “Carolina Shag.”

The song is one of 11 bonus tracks featured on the expanded reissue, a remixed and remastered version of the original album, as well as demos, outtakes and rough mixes of tracks.

The song is about a man who takes a trip to the Carolina coast and meets a fun and free-spirited woman on the beach.

The track is available now via digital formats, and a companion lyric video has premiered at Mellencamp’s official YouTube channel.

The Scarecrow reissue can be preordered now, and will be available in multiple configurations and formats.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will appear for three nights in New York City at the Beacon Theatre June 5-7.
