David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, Jon Bon Jovi, More Mourn the Loss of Eddie Van Halen
The music community is mourning the loss of Eddie Van Halen, who passed away at the age of 65 on Tuesday (Oct. 6) from cancer at age 65.
Former Van Halen front men David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar each paid their respects on social media, sharing photos and expressing their grief in separate posts.
Others took to Twitter to pay tribute, including former wife Valerie Bertinelli, Richie Sambora, Lenny Kravitz, Gene Simmons, Billy Idol, and more.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ozzy Osbourne revealed he knew that Van Halen was “battling an illness.”
“I have the same doctor as him. I used to pass messages through her to him, and she would never tell me the condition he was in or whatever. She would say, ‘What do you want to say?’ And I would say, ‘I send my regards.’ So it really was a shock, because he was a good guy,” he said. “He really was a good man.”
“It’s always a sad day when somebody like that dies. It’s like when Michael Jackson died. I didn’t believe it at first. It’s such a fucking loss.”
Jon Bon Jovi honored Van Halen during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, saying “He was an innovator, a genuine, unique soul and there’s a huge hole now there forever.”
