Highlands Elementary School Launches Shoe Drive Fundraiser to Assist Teachers

The Highlands Elementary School PTO will conduct a shoe drive fundraiser kicking off this Monday (April 12) through June 7 in an effort to assist teachers with classroom settings and for educational materials and activities.

The PTO will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected through a partnership with Funds2Orgs. The collected shoes will be redistributed through the Funds2Orgs network of small business partners. The money raised will help teachers and students in the upcoming school year. Proceeds from the shoes collected will also help small business in developing countries where jobs and opportunities are limited.

According to PTO President Andrea Serghis, the drive is a “win-win” for the school and others in need.

“We are excited by our shoe drive,” she said. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money to benefit Highlands teachers and students and assist them with classroom and educational activities for the upcoming year, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities.”

Shoes can be dropped off at the school from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. at 360 Navasink Ave., Highlands.
