Watch Eric Clapton Jam ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince at the Royal Albert Hall (Video)

Eric Clapton kicked off  his Royal Albert Hall residency with tributes to the late Doris Day and Prince Monday night (May 13).

Clapton paid tribute to Day, who passed away at the age of 97 on May 13, with a cover of her well-known hit, “Que Sera Sera.” He closed the show with a bluesy and graceful “Purple Rain.”

Also included in the set list:

“Pretending” and “Tears in Heaven.” Missing, however, were such career staples as “White Room,” “Cocaine” and “Lay Down Sally.”

The London dates feature Clapton’s regular seven-piece band: Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Paul Carrack (keyboards), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Nathan East (bass), Sonny Emory (drums), and vocalists Sharon White and Katie Kissoon.

Here is a video of “Purple Rain”–watch all the way through to see how Clapton jams out the “oooooh” part:
