The Bitch is Back: Elton John Calls Billy Joel ‘Lazy’

Elton John has never been one to mince words, and he isn’t about to soften up any time soon.

Asked about Billy Joel’s comments last year that he is “dragging down” his own legacy by releasing new albums, Elton simply scoffed.

“Well actually, he hasn’t made anything since 1993 because he can’t,” he tells the UK newspaper, The Sun.

“I love releasing new music, it doesn’t sell but that’s the point — it’s like telling a painter not to paint,” he continued. “He’s just lazy. Yeah, I love him to death but he’s lazy.”

Elton is currently on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” world tour, performing three hours a night.

The movie, Rocketman, will premiere at Cannes on May 16. Elton has recorded a brand new song for the soundtrack with Taron Egerton, (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” which will also play over the movie’s final credits. The soundtrack comes out May 24.

Target will offer an exclusive CD version of the Rocketman soundtrack featuring two bonus tracks — “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “Breakin’ Down the Walls of Heartache.”
