Summer of Sorcery, Steve Van Zandt, and Springsteen
Summer started a little early with a rock and soul stew at The Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, as Steve Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul were joined by Bruce Springsteen Wednesday night (May 8).
Springsteen joined his fellow E Streeter for a three-song repeat from this weekend’s surprise set in Los Angeles, performing “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out,” “Sun City,” and “I Don’t Wanna Go Home.”
Van Zandt’s taut band treated the audience to selections from his new album, Summer of Sorcery, and fan favorites “I Am a Patriot,” and “Trapped Again.” A new song, “Love Again,” captures the classic Jersey Asbury Jukes sound, and resonated great in the hall.
In a touching moment, Van Zandt’s 92 year-old super fan, Beatrice Slater, was invited onstage to dance with the band.
This was the second time in a week Springsteen returned to the Paramount. He previously appeared for a Q and A at the Asbury Park Music and Film Festival after a screening of clips from The Thrill Hill Archives.
