Steve Perry Returns
First he was spotted at American Idol. Then he was spotted singing in the studio with Toad The Wet Sprocket. So: Where in the world is Steve Perry now?
We may have the answer! The former Journey vocalist is suddenly verrrry active on social media, firing up his Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts with a handwritten message: “I know it’s Been a long Time Comin’…” For added fun, he has shared what appears to be the cover of his long rumored new solo album.
He teased this album at the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony of Journey in Brooklyn, telling ABC Radio that the album was “cathartic.”
“I met someone and I fell in love with this person,” he said. “And I lost this person to breast cancer four years ago. In the midst of that, I had written some songs, and before I met her I had sketched some. And so about a year ago, I started recording.”
“Basically, the record is an emotional expression, and a reason to make one,” he continued. “It’s been a real cathartic experience going back to that emotional place that I thought I would never go back to. And we really have been doing our very best to capture what I think are some timeless songs.”
The record is expected in October. His most recent solo album, For The Love of Strange Medicine, was released in 1994.
