Statue Honoring the Late John Bonham Unveiled on His Birthday
Today would have been the 7oth birthday of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, and his hometown is honoring the late drummer with a statue in his honor.
The bronze statue–unveiled in Reddittch U.K..–can now be seen in the town center of Mercian Square. Designed by respected British sculptor Mark Richards, the statue–which shows the man known to rock fans everywhere as “Bonzo”– has the icon proudly banging on his set. It stands six feet high, 16 feet wide and four feet deep, weighing about 5,500 pounds.
It features an inscription that reads, “The most outstanding and original drummer of his time, John Bonham’s popularity and influence continue to resonate within the world of music and beyond.”
Most of the money for the statue was raised from private donations from “dedicated fans” via The John Bonham Memorial Fund, which was founded in 2013.
