Sopranos Movie Gets New Title; Release Date

The forthcoming Sopranos pre-quel, Newark, has an official release date, according to Deadline.

The film–starring Alesandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro and Michael Gandolfini; the latter playing the younger Tony Soprano–is set to arrive Sept. 25, 2020.

Newark is set in the era of the Newark riots in the ’60s, and will focus on the story of Dickie Moltisanti, the late father of Christopher Moltisanti (played by Michael Imperioli) and cousin of Carmela Soprano.

Alan Taylor will direct the script, written by Lawrence Konner. Sopranos series creator David Chase is co-producing the film.
