Shine On: Pink Floyd Drummer Nick Mason Awarded CBE in London (Video)

Pink Floyd founder Nick Mason is now officially a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

The drummer-who recently hit the road celebrating the music of “A Saucerful of Secrets”– was awarded a CBE on May 2 at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London.

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, presented Mason with the honor.

Nicholas Mason, the drummer from rock band Pink Floyd received a CBE for services to Music. Nicholas featured on every album produced by the band since he co-founded them in 1965.

“Nicholas is featured on every album produced by the band since he co-founded them in 1965,” reads an official statement.

Shortly after, Mason wrote on Facebook he was “honoured and delighted” and  “just surprised that the Award is given for services to music rather than to the used car trade!”

A CBE is just below knighthood, and is awarded for having a prominent but lesser role at national level, or a leading role at regional level.
