Scotch Plains Street to be Named for Pat DiNizio

The memory of Smithereens front man Pat DiNizio will be honored April 17 with the dedication of a street in his honor.

Next Tuesday, Montague Ave. at the corner of Westfield Avenue in Scotch Plains will be named “Pat DiNizio.” The ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m., with the new signed unveiled.

“It was a pleasure and a privilege to see Pat perform in Scotch Plains this past summer,” said Mayor Al Smith. “Since his unexpected death in December, the Township has received many requests to honor Pat’s legacy.”

Dinizio was inducted into the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Hall of Fame in 2015. The Smithereens–which featured Jim Babjak (guitar), Mike Mesaros (bass), and Dennis Diken (drums)–is known for the hits “A Girl Like You” and “Only a Memory.”
