Roger Daltrey on Marriage Secrets, His Fine Physique and the Song that makes him ‘Bloody Bored’
Who front man Roger Daltrey didn’t mince words in a recent Rolling Stone interview when he was asked which song his is absolutely sick of singing: “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
“That’s the only song I’m bloody bored (sic) less with. I don’t know why, but I’m being honest,” he said. “All the others I can approach like I’m singing for the first time. I don’t know what’s happening there psychologically. Maybe it’s the song, but I never seem to be in the same pocket where I’m singing it for the first time.”
Asked about the secret to his long marriage to his wife, Heather, Daltrey said its quite simple.
“I think ours survived because I was always honest with her. At the end of every tour, however long we were away, and whatever had gone on during the tour, I’d be on the first bloody plane back to her,” he said. “But underneath it all, I worshipped the ground she walked on.”
At age 74, Daltrey is still in remarkable shape. How does he do it? Discipline, good genes, and a desire not to be overweight.
“I do about 20 minutes in the gym twice a week, some light weights and the rowing machine. When I was a sheet-metal worker, I did build my body for a film where I played a prisoner that lifted weights,” he said. ” And I’ve just got that kind of body. Sorry!”
Daltrey also tipped his hat to Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger.
“Look at how he looks after himself. He looks magnificent for his age,” he said. “He looks after his instrument. That’s what it’s all about.”
Roger’s new book, Thanks a Lot Mr Kibblewhite, is due in October. He also released a new album, As Long As I Have You, and is currently on a U.S. tour performing classics by The Who.
