Paul McCartney’s “One on One” tour kicks off on Monday (Sept. 11) at the Prudential Center in Newark, and just as he has for the last 15 years, guitarist and bassist Brian Ray will be right by his side.
Ray–who also leads his own band, The Bayonets–has just released a new record, “Crash, Boom, Bang!” on JEM Records/Sony Red–called in to talk to mid-day jock Michele Amabile of The New 107.1 The Boss to talk about the forthcoming tour, how he got his gig playing alongside McCartney, performing with legends Etta James and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards (he also opened for The Stones with Etta), his connection to Neil Young, and his amazing beginning playing with Bobby Pickett and the Crypt Keeper Five (yep, “Monster Mash”) as a teen.
His new band, The Bayonets, also features rock royalty-Oliver Leiber–the song of legendary songwriter Jerry Leiber of Leiberand Mike Stoller fame (“Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Yakety-Yak”), is the drummer and a co-writer.
Check out the Bayonets “Like She Does” and listen to the interview as Ray answers the burning question–what kind of vegetarian dish could McCartney have ordered at Jimmy’s Italian Restaurant in Asbury Park?
