This past week The Kinks frontman Sir Ray Davies was knighted for service to British music.
The DailyMail reports the 72-year-old rock legend was honored by the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace on March 16th.
The Kinks who formed in 1963 were one of the era’s most influential bands. They have influential such acts as Oasis and Blur where Davies earned the nickname Godfather of Britpop.
When Davies described how he felt finding out he was to be knighted he explained to the DailyMail, “Initially I felt a mixture of surprise, humility, joy and a bit embarrassed but after thinking about it, I accept this for my family and fans as well as everyone who has inspired me to write.”
