Keith Richards Teases New Music, Surprise Club Gig, Ahead of Rolling Stones Tour
The Rolling Stones are ready to embark on its 2019 North American dates of its ‘No Filter’ tour, and Keith Richards says it’s a perfect opportunity for the group to get together and brainstorm some new tunes.
It’s “perfect timing,” he says in a new Rolling Stone interview.
“I’m preparing more than anything else, putting material together,” he says of the band’s plans to get some work started in the studio before hitting the road in April. Richards already started his homework over the holiday season, but it’s been slow going.
“Sometimes it’s not as much writing as listening to what’s been written and figuring it out, and honing and all kinds of stuff,” he explains of the process. “It’s very boring. It’s like a carpentry shop.”
What he is excited about, he says, is touring. The group is also in talks about playing a surprise club gig, joking the idea is “on the menu–Hors d’oeuvres!”
“To play back in the States again, it’s fantastic,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I always think of it as our really early hunting grounds. Although we had already done it in England, to work over a whole continent was pretty astounding. So I’ve always had a soft spot for working in America.”
