Congratulations to Journey guitarist Neal Schon, who can now proudly say he has an entire day dedicated in his honor.
Prior to Journey’s performance at Tulsa, Oklahoma’s BOK Center, Schon was awarded a proclamation declaring June 5 as “Neal Schon Day” by Mayor G.T. Bynum. Schon was awarded the honor at the Woody Guthrie Center.
“It’s emotional for me,” said the musician, who was born in Oklahoma and grew up in California. “My mother and father are looking down. Almost a year ago, she passed. We played here, and I dedicated the whole show to her…I am very, very grateful and proud to be from here.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was also inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2013 for his work including Santana, Bad English and a solo artist.
Schon was still emotional as he performed at the BOK that night, taking to his Facebook page to thank the state for the “amazing honor.”
