Rockefeller Center had thousands of fans waiting for days leading up to Tuesday (May 9) appearance of 23-year-old, Harry Styles on NBC’s Today Show as he launched his solo career with a self-titled debut album.
The performance on the Today plaza was a little different than the usual screaming teen-girls that followed One Direction, his old group. The subtle change comes with his solo career from the pop group to an almost rock vibe to Style’s new sound.
In April, Styles released his first single from the album, “Sign of the Times” surprised listeners with its classic-rock vibes.

Tuesday’s Today Show appearance paved way to continue the classic-rock elements of Styles self-titled album. The New York Post shared reaction from the crowed in the plaza,
“My brother and husband used to put up with me listening to One Direction, but they really like that song,” says 32-year-old Cameron Cotrufello, who came from Philadelphia to see Styles perform just four songs at his “Today” gig. “They think it sounds like David Bowie or James Taylor.”
“My dad didn’t really care about One Direction, but he loves ‘Sign of the Times,’” adds Allie Shaw, a 16-year-old fan from New Jersey. “He sings it around the house. It reminds him of Elton John.”
