Foreigner to Headline 1071 The Boss Summer Bash at PNC Bank Arts Center
Foreigner, Kansas, and Europe are set to rock the 1071 The Boss Summer Bash at the PNC Bank Arts Center on August 22, 1071 The Boss afternoon jock Jeff Rafter announced this morning.
“Is everybody ready to rock?” said bassist Jeff Pilson, who called in to talk to 1071 The Boss mid-day host Michele Amabile about the band’s Jukebox Heroes 2020 tour.
Pilson–whose rock resume includes playing with Dokken, Dio and a role in the 2001 movie Rock Star–promises a full set of hits in the set.
“Foreigner live is a..high energy rock show,” he said. “I think we surprise people. I was a huge Foreigner fan, and bands like Dokken and all the bands from the ’80s were all Foreigner fans because Foreigner wrote hard rock music with great choruses and great songs, and that was the template for us.”
“We do this every year, and it is so much fun,” says Gimbel, a Morristown, NJ native who plays plays rhythm guitar, saxophone, flute as well as keyboards for the band. “It’s more fun than should be allowed. .Anything can happen at a Foreigner show.”
Gimbel –who gets the nightly honor of playing the iconic sax solo on “Urgent”–hinted that the band will be looking for a local choir to join the band on stage for the ’80s hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is,” as well as other surprises.
“We’ll see if there is a good high school choir that wants to come up and play, and in return we will make a donation to their music program,” he said. “Music in schools are being taken away from kids through no fault of their own. They didn’t do anything wrong and budget cuts are taking away these music programs. So we like to talk about that and see these kids come up on stage. It is really special.”
Foreigner founding member, songwriter and lead guitarist Mick Jones says that the triple-bill is going to be a blast.
“We can’t wait to hit the road with our good friends Kansas and Europe and bring all our biggest hits to cities across the country,” Jones said in a statement. “We always have such a good time together, and combined we share some of the greatest songs in rock and roll. We are so excited to see our fans from coast to coast, and plan to make this summer our most epic tour yet!”
Kansas added, “We look forward to touring with Foreigner. It has been nearly 10 years since both bands have done a full tour together. That run was a blast, and we are excited to get started this summer. The bands and the crews get along great, and we’ll all be working tougher to perform an exceptional show for the fans.”
Tickets for the tour, which is being presented by Live Nation, go on sale January 17th at 10 a.m. local time via Live Nation’s website.
