Tom Petty’s musical legacy will be honored by local guitar hero Bobby Bandiera in a special show next month at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank.
The show, “Runnin’ Down a Dream: A Tribute to Tom Petty,” is set for Nov. 5, Bandiera said in a statement. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to MusicCares, which named Petty as its “Person of the Year” this February.
“Earlier this year, I played the Basie and paid tribute to legendary supergroup The Traveling Wilburys,” Bandiera wrote. “We performed Wilburys songs, and we played music from Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, and Tom Petty.”
“God bless Tom Petty,” he continued. “He was one of the great American singer-songwriters, maybe one of the last great American singer-songwriters. His music has always affected me, and always will.”
MusicCares is an industry organizations that helps musicians with medical expenses, substance abuse treatment, housing and emergency instruments or equipment issues. In 2016, 16,000 performers were helped with donations that topped $4.2 million.
