Billy Joel Celebrates 70 with Special Guest Peter Frampton (Video)

Billy Joel celebrated his 70th birthday with over 20,000 of his closest friends and special guest Peter Frampton, who was on hand to celebrate Wednesday night (May 9) at Madison Square Garden.

The pair teamed up for two classics from Frampton Comes Alive–“Baby I Love Your Way” and “Show Me The Way”–before Frampton gave Joel a very special gift–his very own talk box.

Family was also in the house, according to Newsday, which reported, ““Daughter Alexa Ray Joel joined him on ‘New York State Of Mind’ and then led the crowd, along with three-year-old sister Della Rose and Joel’s wife, Alexis, in a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday.’”

Joel also received video birthday well wishes from Pink, Garth Brooks, and AC/DC’s Brian Johnson.

How does Joel keep going all year?

“This is a Peter Pan kinda job. You start out, and you’re young, and you’re rockin’ and rollin’, and that’s what you do all your life,” he tells Rolling Stone.

The Garden went all out for The Piano Man’s big day, decorating the venue and inviting fans to sent birthday wishes for display on the GadenVision screens.

Frampton’s appearance was particularly special, as he was recently diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease that’s forcing him to retire from touring soon. His farewell tour launches June 18 in Catoosa, Oklahoma. Frampton–who has recorded four albums worth of material and is set to release the first one, All In, next month– returns to The Garden in September.
