Beatles ‘Butcher Cover’ Sells for Big Bucks at Julien’s Auction
A collector with very deep pockets is now the proud owner of a rare, autographed copy of the infamous Beatles “Butcher Cover.”
The 1969 disc, Yesterday and Today, was once owned by John Lennon, went for $234,000 at the “Music Icons: The Beatles in Liverpool” sale, which was presented by Julien’s Auctions. It is special for a few reasons–it includes personal artwork by John Lennon and has a “blank back,” meaning it as a prototype.
Lennon traded the record to Beatles bootleg collector Dave Morrell in exchange for a reel-to-reel tape of a rare Beatles bootleg. It is signed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
A baseball signed by all four Beatles after a gig at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park also sold for $73,000.
