‘American Idol’ Winner Caleb Johnson on Being Meat Loaf, Touring with KISS, and Hanging out Backstage with Queen and Adam Lambert
When Caleb Johnson was crowned the winner American Idol for its 13th season in 2014, he lived out a rock and roll dream joining KISS for the finale.
A few years later, he went out on the road to open for the band, and joined several tours with legends like Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
On the show, viewers compared the long-haired Asheville, North Carolina native to powerhouse vocalist Meat Loaf, and it was inevitable that one day the two would collaborate.
This month, Johnson will be at the Bergen Performing Arts Center with the Neverland Express for “Meat Loaf Presents BAT The Music of Meat Loaf.”
The show will be extra special, because Meat Loaf will actually be in attendance at the event to meet fans and tell stories prior to the show: a rare event.
1071 The Boss mid-day host Michele Amabile checked in with Johnson to talk about the show (hardest to sing? “All of them,” he says), his cameo this past week on the Queen documentary, “The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story” (he was backstage in Las Vegas–and you can see him in the mirror and witness what he calls “Idol comaraderie” between himself and Lambert), and his new album, “Born on Southern Ground,” due June 14.
Plus–how does he feel about the current season of American Idol?
